Ditch the Desk

Since I'm working Mondays and Tuesdays, the kids have class
on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
So far I've been surprised how I feel about school on Saturdays...
Its hard for me to make them do lessons. I guess that's
from years of being "off" on Saturdays!
So today we tried something different, I read ahead on their
grammar and math. Then I worked the lessons into things that wouldn't be done sitting at a desk.
We went for a hike. Everyone did a nature study.
Gaitz and Sibley had to research, draw and write about their object.
Sibley discussed nouns, verbs, punctuation, and capitalization.
Gaitz diagrammed the sentences from his paper.
Math fractions and decimals with money. A dice game at the dining room table.
Literature on an audio-book while folding laundry. Tracing "Hiccups"
journey in the book to study geography, while discussing words like
summer current, latin, tunics, and centurion.
WHAT A DAY!

FDR state park... Our happy home!

Creek walk is Better than SAXON math!
Today Merritt's obsession was mushrooms!

Salamander
Sibley drawing a fern.
Great place to study because the littles had a playground to occupy themselves. The smell of BBQ from the family at the campground was distracting!

Homeschool week 2

Week 2 rolling along. Recently I saw a picture from another artist in the baroque era and I was so proud I recognized it. Guess the kids aren't the only ones learning! Presently we are studying Rembrandt's Titus.

Morning basket love!
Merritt mixing physical therapy AND education!
I couldn't find Gaitz this morning to start lessons... Of course I didn't think to look in the classroom. There he was partly done with grammar for the morning. (So very proud of this moment of initiative)

Co-op history... William the Silent

William and the Sea Beggar fleet about to sail through a broken dike to defeat the Spainish and gain control of the Netherlands.
Co-op science ... God Created light

Read aloud "the Ghost of Tokaido Inn" so Japanese ceremonial tea was appropriate although we aren't sure the tea sets might be Chinese... Haha! Don't tell the kids!
Post school playing and dinner! Merritt set the table.😊

Remember the day a prisoner escaped the county jail and came to your road... Right after your pig got loose and interrupted your lessons!
