First broken bone

Sibley fell from her bike and hurt her thumb. I kept expecting it to get better but we ended up at the orthopedist anyhow. A buckle fracture of her thumb with a fast form cast for 3 weeks.

A sling to discourage use until our ortho appointment

Dr. Will gave us the diagnosis and Benji gave us our treatment! Two of our favorite medical guys!

Float Plane Field Trip

Render has been using Five In A Row for his curriculum
this year, WHICH I LOVE! You read a picture book every day for
5 days in a row. Everyday you study something different relating to the book.
His book for this week was "A Glorious Flight." Louis Blerinot
went through many plane prototypes in 1901 until
he finally accomplished being the first person
to fly over the English Channel.
Some of his plane attempts started on water...
the original float planes!
What a great way to end the week and I must say
Render was so so so excited!
(also, through this book my kids learned
about onomatopoeia and it has been a source
of many giggles and entertainment)
CLAKETA, CLAKETA, CLAKETA
went the plane!

A huge thanks to Tasha Edwards, Josh Adams,
and especially, Mr. Buddy (the nicest pilot EVER!).

Ella and Titus watching the plane land.

There is the sweet boy! So excited about "his" field trip!

Gaitz and Jack. Jack being so quiet and sweet after
breaking his arm yesterday!

Oh Mr. Buddy, you'll have your hands full with this crew!

Sweet girls. Even sweeter was Ella kindly letting
these girls ride and never getting impatient or
sad that she wasn't going up yet, a true sign of
her gracious spirit! (and a sign that
she is a seasoned "flyer") Thank you, Ella Bella!

ok... Merritt might have  been more excited than
all the others combined!

Art

I came home today to find art! While KK had the kids today, Gaitz watched a tutorial on drawing mountains. Don't you love his shadowing in the picture on the right. It's even better that Cory sat down to draw with him when we got home! I remember drawing with my Dad as a kid. (Cory's sunset, Sibley's flower, gaitz's mountain)
Gaitz said that Cory and I were "equal" and should have a drawing contest. He said that I might have detail but dad has "COLOR!!!" I'm not going to dwell on the fact that I watched a 1 hour tutorial on depth of field and direction of light to make my picture 😂😂😂!!!

Nature Pal Exchange

We signed up and were paired with a family in California. They sent us a box of nature items and we did the same!

Render showing the route from Georgia to California,California to Georgia. Our nature pals live on the coast.

Sitting on the table... Exploring

Inspired by the California quail drawing, we tried to draw our own birds.

We received our #naturepalexchange today!!! I thought yall might enjoy seeing a few of the treasures from our beautiful California collection.  My oldest almost hyperventilated when I pulled out the bag marked "chert rock." Then he proceeded to give a lecture to the rest of the crew! Of course, Sibley's favorite is the tule doll. I happen to think the quail picture was the best of all because it inspired us to try our own bird images on the wipe board. Also, it gave us the chance to use our bird field guide. Way to start a spark, @momitomi3!!! Thank you! We are in love with our gift!!! (Tule doll, chert rock, arrowhead, obsidian, old man's beard lichen, sand dollar, muscle shell)

Growing up ain't so bad

One night last week Gaitz cooked tacos while us grown-ups were working. The whole crew baked an apple pie on Sunday and then Sibley learned to do the laundry. Although her first ever load of dry clothes contained 5 crayons it was still a success! Tonight she cooked a crockpot dinner of wild rice chicken. There was enough to bless us with another night of food too! Although I hate to see them grow up so fast, when your boss is out of town for 2 weeks and a child has doctors appointments in Atlanta twice a week for that same time it sure is nice to have two "growing up." Not to mention... They never complained about the extra work!!! Guess this was the push I needed to let them spread out their wings!

Evenings
Under this fluffy hen are 5 more eggs and 8 baby chicks. As Cory and I stood watching her tuck those babies in for the night a passage from The Keeper of the Bees came to my mind!! { "Some... Call it the spirit of the hive, or instinct or nature, but that the Bee Master says is just another name for God." Gene Stratton-Porter } #learningthroughliterature #creationwins
