Today Gaitz was all excited about a nature study but sibley was not. Once she saw us all leaving for the woods, she joined us. Of course, once she caught a butterfly she was all in!

Gaitz's impromptu lecture for us on slaves feeling the moss on trees during the night while trying to escape. Moss grows on the north side of the trees, which would help send the slave in the right direction! This information would have been shared through the Underground Railroad. I had to ask where he heard that! He shrugged, "I read it in a book."
